Jacob (Jen-Gwo) Chen serves as Chairman of the Board for SMART Technologies and brings over 40 years of experience in education, training and development, business leadership, and operations to the SMART executive team. Currently, he also serves as a Board member of Hon Hai Board of Directors and Vice Chairman of Hon Hai/Foxconn Technology Group. Prior to joining Foxconn, Jacob was the Dean of the College of Science and Technology at the University of Texas – Pan American and the Department Chairman of the Department of Industrial Engineering at the University of Houston. During his academic career, Dr. Chen and his research team has developed an integrated performance evaluation and training tool for Advanced Cardiac Life Support. One of his research interests and experiences is in the area of the integration of learning and forgetting curves for the control of knowledge and skill acquisition for non-repetitive task training and retraining. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from the National Taiwan Normal University and taught science courses at two middle schools. He holds a Masters of Science degree in Industrial Management from the Central Missouri State University and a Ph.D. degree in Industrial Engineering from the University of Oklahoma. He is also a Fellow of the Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers(IISE) and a Fellow of the World Productivity Science Academy (WPSA).
